Corrosion causes equipment failures, product rejects, price reductions, and short life spans, which cost the construction and manufacturing industries billions of dollars each year. It is estimated that economic losses due to corrosion damage in steel (the most important and widely used metal in structures, machineries, plants and industrial installations, railways, and shipping) can amount to 3 to 4 percent of a country's gross domestic product (GDP). HISTORY                                                                                           

Intercept was developed by Bell Labs over 20 years ago. The scientists at Bell Labs invented a method to transform plastic into a high-gas barrier material, utilizing copper reacted into the plastic molecular chain, which then permanently neutralizes corrosive gases.  Intercept has been rigorously tested by independent scientists and laboratories, and approved for use by companies throughout the world.  Intercept is NASA approved and proven to protect everything from base metals to high-end electronics and optics, from jewelry to weapons; it is ideal for protecting museum artifacts, aerospace, automotive and telecommunication equipment. Intercept guards against oxidation and provides long-lasting protection from rust and corrosion for up to 20 years.

Intercept Technology™ uses a reactive copper polymer for storing and protecting electronic equipment. This provides safe and effective corrosion control for all metals when sealed inside a layer of the film. The copper acts similarly to a sacrificial anode that reacts with the corrosive compounds in the air, preventing corrosion on the object's metal surfaces. In addition, the copper works to prevent the growth of mold or mildew.

The plastics used are non-toxic and recyclable; they are made from low density polyethylene (LDPE), which can be recycled or safely incinerated. The Intercept®  range of films has been recognized in environmentally sensitive products and was awarded the prestigious 2005-06 German Environmental Prize for New Environmentally Safe Methods for Corrosion Protection.
